The Last of Robert's 17 days in the Hospital

I now know that I posted these backwards, but I am too lazy to re-do them. This picture is on the 2nd day after Robert got home. Heidi learned how to give her dad his antibiotics through his pic line. She would make a great nurse...as long as there in no blood.

A few days after getting home. Heidi was a great nurse to her dad.
Finally after waiting for hours, we got to come home. Jeff helping his dad into the house from the car. This was a huge ordeal because Robert had only been able to walk this far for a couple of days. We were so blessed that he was finally doing good enough to come home.

I had to take a picture of the food tray because every tray had the wheat roll on it. There were only a couple of times you don't get a roll. I actually enjoyed eating them with the butter and jelly Robert got in those tiny little packets.

Mason and Julie came for a visit. Family and friends really help pass the time of day.

Dr. Armstrong got to know us really well. What he thought was going to be a routine surgery, turned into 17 days of fun! He was great!

This is Robert's infectious disease doctor that helped get his infection under control. Can't think of his name at the moment.

Dr. Baat is an amazing internal doctor. He is the Dr. that diagnosed Robert with his blood clots. He had all the tests run just to be safe and found out that he had clots in both legs, and a large mass in his right lung. We found out later he had clots in both lungs.

Rob and Staci stopped by for a visit.

Just a few of the flowers Robert got while in the hospital. We loved everyone of them. Everyone was so jealous because he got so many.

Leaving his room on the 4th floor and traveling to a new room on the Orthopedic floor. It was a much nicer room and better therapy, so we were glad for the move.

We had a lovely view of the roof from this room. You can kind of see it out the window. Literally that was all we could see. We could watch workers repair the roof for our entertainment.

Day 4 Began Like This!

Granny decided she needed some attention, haha. She fell while going to the bathroom and really bonked her head. She was such a trouper though. She smiled through it all. I got called about 6:30am that morning and ran down to the hospital where she was admitted. Luckily I had my camera in my purse and took a few pics. Robert...you will just have to wait.

Now that is a black eye, if I ever saw one. She had stitches in her head.
She always has such a great attitude!

Days 2-3 Went From Good....to Bad

Robert's problems all started with this: His oxygen. They couldn't get it up to normal, no matter what they tried. They even tried putting it on his forehead to see if they could get a normal reading. We first thought the machine that read his levels wasn't working right. We then discovered it wasn't that at all, but it was him. So just to be certain that everything was okay, they sent him to Banner Baywood to get everything checked out.

So here came the staff to transport him to Banner Baywood on Thursday morning.
Robert's very first...and hopefully his last ambulance ride.

...and here he is, in an ICU room at Banner Baywood. They felt if they admitted him to the ICU, then they could get the tests they needed done immediately...and boy did they do that.

Day One of Hip Replacement Surgery

Staci, Ryler and Parker came to visit too. They did pretty good considering it was in confined quarters. Haha.

Phelps FHE...Giant Slip n Slide

This is a new tradtion we started in 2009. Giant slip and slides. These are made from old "billboards". Billboards are now made in vinyl and they sell off the billboards after they don't need them anymore. My brother Kelly found where you can buy them, and we used at least 3 for this fun night.

We had races, races and more races. Go David...way to beat Ryan.

Volleyball Fiesta Classic

Mesa High Girl's Volleyball got to participate in the Fiest Cllassic this year for the first time. It was exciting to go and watch Heidi play. There were over 500 teams participating from all over the U.S.

After leaving the Naylor Family Reunion near Provo, we drove down to Cedar to visit the Littles. We always have such a fun time with them. Here we are relaxing in the Little's family room and enjoying some laughs.

Our reunion was held at the BYU Lodge and everyone had so much fun. This place is absolutely beautiful! Many of the activities were held in the lodge.

Heaven on Earth...The Ranch

I want to tell you a little about our favorite place to go. It is the ranch that Robert's grandpa, Rial Randall built in the 60's in Parks, Arizona. He built it himself, so there is not a square corner in the place. All the carpet is carpet someone replaced in their house, so they brought the old stuff up the ranch and put it in. Grandpa said, "I didn't want to make it too nice, or people would want to stay." We have laughed at that quite a bit through the years. It is old, some places are falling apart, but we love it. No one can hurt it, and everyone who comes there has the best time ever! We are so thankful for having a fun place to take the kids during the summer. Parks is about 20 minutes west of Flagstaff on the I-40. It is truly our "Heaven on Earth".

The kids are coming down the mountain from their hike. They always have so much fun at the ranch. There are places to play everywhere. It's like the ranch is it's own little world. Boy do we love it there.

Ryler gives us a big smile while sitting in the old high chair that I helped Grandma Brinton recover more than 30 years ago. We still love using it at the ranch. It's amazing how much we love nastolgic things at the ranch. We are so thankful for so many things that Grandpa and Grandma Randall left for us to enjoy. The ranch isn't fancy, but it's full of love!

The day of prom was the same day I came home from Women's conference. Heidi and her friend Lindsay went to Dillard's to have their make-up done, before I got back from my trip to Utah. While they were having it done, Heidi started feeling like she was going to pass out. Instead of sitting on the floor for a minute (you know how you don't want to look silly) she just kept sitting there....well not for long. Before she knew it she was on the floor passed out. Luckily a nurse was near her and helped her as she came to. The nurse called me (I was home by now)and told me what happened and thought it was probably because she hadn't eaten anything. I told her I would come right over and pick her up and thanked for her not calling 911, because I knew she was fine. I hung up and drove to Dillards. When I got there, I thought, "Oh no, someone called 911 after all." There at the entrance was a huge fire truck and an ambulance and I knew Heidi was fine so I wasn't worried at all. I just figured Heidi would be embarrassed by the attention. I walked through the store to the very front in the cosmetic section and came upon a pair of legs sticking out from behind the counter. When I looked at what I thought was Heidi, it wasn't Heidi at all, but her friend Lindsay. Lindsay had gotten sick to her stomach watching Heidi and she passed out too. It was when Lindsay passed out that they called the paramedics, because now they had two girls down at the same time. The paramedics asked if the girls had taken something to loose weight for prom. I assured them they didn't need help losing weight because they were already so thin and they finally realized what had actually happened. It was pretty funny, but of course the paramedics didn't think it was funny and couldn't understand why I wasn't worried. They just don't know my family history.

This is the scene I came upon when I got to Dillards. I saw a pair of legs sticking out and thought they were Heidi's. When I first got there Lindsay was still laying down. I wanted to take a picture of Heidi when she was down, but I thought the paramedics would have thought I was a bad mom, so I waited until she felt better. Luckily I still had my camera in my purse from my trip to Utah.

Linsday wasn't feeling too good for awhile.
Heidi was up and around by now and Lindsay is calling her mom.
I think there were about 8 paramedics that showed up. I am sure they thought it was a drug problem, but they didn't know these girls.
Feeling much better and now they can even smile for the camera.

The one on the right was the one in charge and was suspicious of what happened. I guess most times they see kids on drugs or taking pills to help lose weight or things. These girls just needed food in their stomachs. He really wanted me to take Heidi to have her checked out at the ER, but Heidi said, "I can't! I have prom in an hour an a half".

Everything turned out fine and now they can leave.

April Fun

We went to a Comedy club while we were there. Here's our group that enjoyed the show.

That's what happens when you don't get moving early enough to go eat breakfast. Hey, Tamara and I stayed up and talked until 2:00am.

This is our dorm buddies, except for Loni who left us. We had so much fun. You would have thought we were college roomates.

It's been since February since I have updated my blog. Where has the time gone? March always brings the most birthdays in our family with Amy's, Julie's, Emily's, Kylie's and Grandma Nancy's. We also went camping for Spring Break at our usual camping spot near Miami, Az. We had a lot of fun. The photos show some of the fun things that happened in our family during March. April Fun

The big event of April this year was Easter. We also enjoyed our Phelps cousin's party at Stephen's house the day after Easter. We had fun as a family while coloring Easter eggs and because it rained that day, we had to color our eggs and have our Easter egg hunt inside the house. It was a little different, but it worked. We also had Mia's 2nd birthday and sent Tate a birthday package to enjoy on his mission. I hosted the Missionary Mom's Dinner for Arizona at our house, along with the Foundation for Educational Excellence Auction, Brinton FHE at Belinda's, Robert's work party at Toby Keith's new restaurant, the neighborhood ice cream social in our front yard and of course a Cub's game. I ended the month by attending my first ever Women's Conference in Provo, Utah with two of my sisters and several nieces. It was so fun!

Started Blogging Again!

Well after almost one year, I am finally blogging again. I still have our two missionary blogs and that seems like those alone take me a long to time do, but I am finally getting a little faster with the help of my girls. I am catching up from things that happened a year ago, but as I post something each time, I am getting one step closer to catching up. I have the best family in the world. Enjoy catching up with me! I am back dating them so they coincide with when things happen, but everything since Women's Conference from last year is new. Enjoy!

Man of the Year

Mesa's Man of the Year for 2008
We were able to celebrate with him at the banquet on Feb. 17th

The kids did a great job on his part of the program!
They all stood up front & told about their dad & his accomplishments, then we watched a video that we put together for him as a SURPRISE!
He was definitely surprised!
We had fun interviewing several people for the video that he has worked with over the years & they were all honored to tell why they love Robert so much & why he deserved this honor!

Robert gave a perfect speech after the kids were done!
I'm so proud of him & all he does for the city!

Veteran's Day Parade

This was the most touching event of the parade. Everyone one of these flag bearers has huge photo with the name of someon who had died in the war. I think there were more than 200, all from Arizona.

It was a perfect day for a parade. And people wonder why we live in Arizona.

Winter Formal 2008

Heidi asked Tanner Jones to Winter Formal. The funny part is, the Jones were set up by my sister Donna and her husband Ron. Now they have kids our kids ages. Our son Tate took their daughter to prom last year and we now our kids are good friends. Small world. Heidi's sister Kylie took their pictures at Val Vista Lakes before the dance. They wanted different pictures and they turned out great. That was before Kylie's camera blew over on the tripod and fell apart.

I can't believe this is our baby. When did she grow up???

There was no dust due to the morning rain and there were no bees because of the moisture. We have had those in the past few years due to the drought. What a fun day we had.

Cute Abby on her First Birthday! She actually started walking that night. We had a fun party for her at our house. Grandma and Grandpa Stradling came too along with lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.

The grandkids who helped Granny decorate her Christmas tree. We did this for our Family Home Evening in November. We didn't want to wait until it was too late to enjoy, so we did it early this year, so Granny could enjoy her Christmas tree.

The Ranch

We decided to take a QUICK trip to the Ranch this weekend. One of the wheels on the water trailer broke on a previous trip to the ranch & we needed to pick up the trailer from the shop & take it back to the Ranch. We drove up Friday afternoon & came home Saturday afternoon. It was fast, but nice to enjoy the cool weather for awhile!

Staci & Parker decided to join us last minute and Parker had lots of fun playing in the dirt!

Tate gave his Farewell Talk in church on July 20, 2008. He did an AMAZING job & had everyone in tears by the end. So many family & friends were able to come to our ward to hear him & we are so grateful for all of their support! That night we had family over for an Open House & then after the Open House, the Stake President came to our home & set him apart as a missionary & we were off to Utah the next morning!

This is a funny picture, because the security guard was standing there and so I told Tate and his friends Travis and DJ to have their picture taken with him.

I can't believe how long it has been since I have written, because so many things have been going on this summer. I will try and back track over a few of them. Tate graduated on May 22, 2008, which happened to be our 33rd wedding Anniversary. Tate's graduation was not quite what he expected, but all things considered, I thought it turned out really nice. We first attended baccalaureate on Sunday and we got a lot of fun pictures that night. It was a nice evening even though only about 200 graduates attended. The weather was perfect and a lot of Tate's friends went to it. It was a good thing they did, because Graduation 4 nights later was a different story.

The day of Graduation, all the students were given tickets for their parents to attend in case of rain. It hadn't rained in more than 30 years, so we had not worries, right? Wrong. About 5:30 that evening we got an automated phone call that said graduation would be held indoors, due to rain. Tate was so upset by this. He wanted to be with all of his friends. Half of the class were to meet in the auditorium and 1/2 were to meet in the gym. They weren't large enough to hold everyone. It did rain during the entire graduation and it was cold. As far as parents were concerned, we enjoyed it. However, none of our children could attend, to which I am sure they were grateful. Haha.

We did call Heidi and she came back to watch them come out, into the rain and took some pictures with her friends. I think Heidi knew as many people as Tate did. We took pictures for quite a long time. At the end Robert had already gone to the car, because it was cold (another rare thing for Az. this time of year), so I called him on his cell phone to pick us up by the gym. He told me he was holding his umbrella over a woman that got hit by a car in front of the seminary building. Heidi and I walked over there as fast as we could. I walked out to see what was happening and ended up using my umbrella to block the rain too. The Fire Dept. hadn't even gotten there yet. They had gone into the parking lot by the stadium, which would have taken forever to get across all those speed bumps. It turned out to be one of Tate's friends, who had just graduated. She was walking with her friend and they both got hit by a car that just didn't see them in the rain. They ended up being okay, but did get to spend the night in the hospital.

After graduation, his family and friends came over for a little open house so they could celebrate with Tate. It was definately one night Tate will never forget. After the open house I went to Sunsplash to help chaperonne from 1:00am to 4:00. Luckily since it was so cold I only had to stay until a little after 3:00 because they closed all the pools. I don't know how anyone went swimming that night. It was 53 degrees and that's cold for us!

YW Recognition

Heidi completed all of her Personal Progress goals & received her YW Medallion last night.
The ward put on a wonderful Recognition night for the 5 Young Women, who accomplished all of their goals & projects. They had a slideshow on each girl & then a parent spoke about each young women. Robert spoke about Heidi & did such a great job, telling how wonderful she is! Each girl had the opportunity to bear their testimony & Heidi's was so sweet.
We are SO PROUD of Heidi & all that she has ACCOMPLISHED!!!

She also QUALIFIED FOR STATE this week in Track!
She jumped 5'2" in the High Jump...her personal BEST & will be going to State as a Sophomore!
We are so proud of her!!!

It is a tradition in my family to spend New Year's Day @ the Desert! It is such a fun tradition, we all love getting together & the kids have so much fun with all of their cousins! This year it was EXTRA windy & we started the fire earlier than normal, because we were SO COLD! We always eat hot dogs, chili, cheese crisps & PLENTY of desserts!

I can't believe 2007 is already over! We made a lot of fun memories over the past year & hope to have another fun-filled year in 2008!!!

We had a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS this year!

All the married kids came over about 11am & the grandkids/Heidi waited patiently...behind the blanket, until everyone got to our house & we all went in at the same time(it drives our kids crazy...but it is tradition!) I had fun spoiling the grandkids, as always & it was so much fun watching them open their gifts! The married kids surprised Robert & I, by refinishing my mother's hope chest & giving it to us...full of fun memories(calendar for this year, book of the past year, patriarchal blessings, ect.) My son Rob did a lot of work on my mother's old hope chest & it looked better than I EVER remembered it!

Later in the day, we all made it over to Granny's house for traditional waffles with icecream & strawberries! We used to do this in the morning, but as families have gotten bigger...we have had to push it later in the day. BUT...we still have breakfast!

It was fun visiting with all of the aunts/uncles/cousins & enjoying time with Granny. We LOVE her so much!

2007 was a Fun-Filled year for the Brinton Bunch!

We started off in January, welcoming Matt & Staci’s son, Parker Matthew Allen in to the world! They love being parents & Parker is the joy of their life! Matt & Staci both graduated from University of Phoenix this year & Matt will be starting a new job at Mesa Bank right after Christmas!

In February, Jeff finished a wonderful mission in Rosario, Argentina & we had a wonderful trip picking him up. We were able to meet the people he loved, meet Pres. and Hermana Hutchison, go to the Falls of Iguazu, and enjoyed visiting the Ashby’s and Crismon’s in Uruguay!

We arrived home in March & Jeff started his adjustment back in to regular life. He is now working as a photographer at Sears Portrait Studio & going to school, while he decides what he wants to do when he grows up! We had lots of fun during our Annul Spring Break Campout with Nanette’s family (Phelps) near Miami, Arizona.

In April, we welcomed our 3rd granddaughter in to the world, when Kylie & David had their 2nd child…a little girl they named Mia Maree Glover. She came right on her due date & her older brother Powell (3) loves playing with his little princess! David is a sales director for Mariott Hotels & Kylie enjoys being a mom & stays busy teaching preschool with Staci twice a week!

May came quickly and Brian Roberts (18), who has now lived with us for 2 ½ years, graduated from high school! He also received his Eagle Scout this year & is now keeping busy working in the computer lab at Lincoln Elementary & preparing to serve a mission in 6 months! Heidi ended the school year by being asked to high jump for Mesa High and was able to go to State. She was about 12th place out of more than 30. Not bad for a freshman. She also received the outstanding Student of the Year award and outstanding girl athlete for Brimhall Jr. High.

In June, we decided it was time to cool off & spent some time at the Ranch, near Flagstaff, AZ. This is Robert’s favorite place to go & we were able to take several trips up there this summer & enjoy the cooler weather with some of our children & grandchildren! Heidi and Nanette also got to go to girl’s camp. Robert and Nanette left soon after to go to Wisconsin Dell’s and to Chicago. We had a great time and even attended 2 Cub’s games. June was a busy month.

July was the Naylor Family Reunion in San Diego. It was extra special, because EVERYONE in our family was able to go this year! We had so much fun with relatives, playing on the beach & we even stayed an extra day and went to Sea World with our kids!

In August, our oldest son Rob opened up his own custom frame shop, called Mat’age. He is keeping BUSY BUSY & his wife Julie is BUSY raising their three kids, Mason (6), Tanner (3), Gemma (2) & her brother Craig (16) & sister Emily (15). If that isn’t enough, she also babysits 3 days a week!

In September, we realized how busy our high school kids would be this year, as Heidi (15) started volleyball, is now playing basketball & will start Track in the spring. Tate (18) is a Senior this year, loves to play on Mesa High’s Volleyball team as well, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout & is preparing to serve a mission as soon as he graduates in May.

In October, Robert decided to join our family’s Biggest Loser Competition & has already lost 50 pounds! He is keeping busy as Director of the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau (Tourism) & I love going to things our children participate in, (lots of ballgames), playing Grandma and cooking for everyone when they come over. We are very blessed that all of our married children live within about 10 minutes of us!

In November we were able to travel to Utah to go to our niece’s wedding. Desiree’ and Royal were married in Manti and we were so glad we could go and help with their reception. We also welcomed our last grandchild into our family…Abby Lynn Brinton rounded out our Grandchild count to an even Eight…4 boys & 4 girls! Abby is Matt & Amy’s 2nd little girl & their daughter Hallie (almost 2) loves being a big sister! Matt owns an Interior painting business, and on the side runs Arizona Air Bounce. Amy loves being a mom and takes such good care of cute Hallie, Abby and dog Roxy.

We can’t believe December is already here, because it seems like we were just planning our trip to Argentina (and that was a whole year ago). We have been so blessed this year! We have the best family and friends anyone could ask for. We are so grateful for our Savior and His example for each of us. It is our hope that each of us can try to be more like Him.

We had our Naylor Family Reunion in San Diego this year. This was the first time that EVERYONE in our family could go. Everybody was able to get the time off work and no
one was on missions this year. It was so much fun to spend time together with family and cousins. We had so much fun playing on the bay where the reunion was held, playing in the sand and the waves at the beach and we even stayed an extra day after the reunion was over to go to Sea World with just our family. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful family that has so much fun when we get together.

We are excited to announce that Brian is graduating from Mesa High School on Thursday, May 24th, 2007! And he is also graduating Seminary with a 4 year degree! For all of you who didn't realize that we had an 8th child...Brian Roberts has been living with us for the past 2 years and it has been a joy to have him as a part of our family. Brian is my daughter-in-law Julie's little brother. Brian is looking forward to his mission next year and in the meantime plans to work full-time at Lincoln Elementary as a school aide. We are so proud of all of his accomplishments & look forward to helping him prepare for his mission!

It's bragging time! Heidi received two outstanding awards last night at her 9th grade awards assembly. The one on the left was for outstanding girl athlete, and the one on the right was for the Elias Rae Brimhall Student of the Year! We are very proud of her. She also did good at the state meet on Saturday and jumped 4'10". She was about 20th out of 31 jumpers, but for a freshman that wasn't too bad! We love you Heidi!

In February we had the opportunity to travel to Argentina to pick up Jeff from the Rosario Mission. We were able to spend a couple weeks traveling to many parts of his mission and loved meeting the people he taught and worked with for the last two years. We were also able to visit Uruguay where our former bishop (Fred Ashby) serves as the mission president and our neighbors (Wayne and Martha Crismon) are serving a mission.

We have been blessed with the CUTEST grandkids ever. We have definately discovered our favorite calling in life, and that is being Grandparents. We love it!!!

Our oldest grandchild is Mason who is 5 years old and is in Kindergarten. Mason is so smart and loves to talk. He has such a good memory and loves discovering things. He also loves coming to Grandpa and Grandma's house to spend the night, work and play.

Powell is next and is 3 years old and is full of energy. He is ALL boy an loves to turn everything he can get his hands on into a sword or a bow & arrow! He loves his new little sister Mia and takes such good care of her.

Tanner is our third grandchild and is also 3 years old. He never stops smiling and keeps his mom on her toes. He loves playing with all of his cousins and loves to play outside!

Gemma comes next, just a year after her big brother Tanner and she is Rob & Julie's little princess. She is one year old and is such a sweetheart! She also has more clothes than any girl I know & is wearing a new outfit every time I see her!

Hallie turned one in January & she is such a joy to have around! She loves to play outside and always want yo give the new baby grandkids lots of kisses! She is looking forward to becoming a big sister in November!

Parker is 3 months old now, born on January 27th and is so much fun to have around! He loves coming over to Grandpa and Grandma's house and even had his 1st sleepover with his mom @ Grandma's when his dad went on a scout campout!

Mia is number grandkid # 7, born on April 26th! Her mom is having fun dressing her up and we all love to hold her when she comes to Grandma & Granpa's house! I can't seem to kiss those cute cheeks enough!
